After Microsoft's first major Windows Phone 7 update turned a number of devices -- particularly the Samsung Omnia 7 -- into bricks last week, the company halted upgrades to all Samsung devices but yesterday, Microsoft resumed its rollout of the update to Samsung devices. The patch is being sent out on a rolling schedule, so it's possible that even some non-Samsung WP7 users have not received the update.

Microsoft Shows off 3D Talking Head Avatars

Microsoft has taken the wraps off some of the natural user interface projects currently in development within its research group. Following a natural user interfacte (NUI) and Kinect SDK TechForum event on Monday, the company posted videos of 3D talking heads, as well as new initiatives in smart displays - both of which make use of camera technologies to create new types of interaction experiences.

Microsoft Shows Off Radical New UI, Could be Used in Windows 8

In a three and a half minute video, Microsoft may have shown the world what it has in store for the eagerly awaited Windows 8. In the video Microsoft showed a radically different interface from past versions of Windows -- even Windows 7. Running on Surface 2, the touch-screen successor to the original Microsoft Surface, the device accepts input from a Windows Phone 7 handset (HTC HD7).
