Tubohotel: concrete tubes turned into a hotel

by iSpyce on July 7, 2011

Architects and designers are going ‘green’ as far as our imagination can take us and one great example of salvaging huge tubes of concrete would be the Tubohotel - an admirable eco-friendly structure. Located in Tepoztlan (which is at an hour’s distance from Mexico City), the Tubohotel is a great and moderately-priced hotel made out of recycled concrete tubes that actually form the rooms of this amazing hotel. To complement the ‘green’ theme of the hotel, the fantastic environs and natural landscape make the hotel a great retreat for the tourist making it value for money.

Designed by T3arc, the Tubohotel has drawn its inspiration from Das Park Hotel that was designed by Andreas Strauss in 2005 - however, the rooms in Tubohotel make better utilization of the ground space as three concrete tube rooms are placed in a pyramid-style and are connected by a set of stairs . The rooms offer a great view of the Sierra del Tepozteco with its glass windows.

Recycling concrete is a very good way of reducing carbon footprint as concrete waste occupies a lot of volume and reusing massive concrete tubing is a great way to save the landfills from more non-biodegradable waste. The rooms are made very spaciously with a queen sized bed and curtains covering the massive glass windows that are the gateway to the scenic beauty of Tepoztlan.

The Tubohotel is a perfect lodging for those on a limited budget. Other services such as private showers, toilets and bathrooms along with a restaurant (complete with a chef) are also available at the hotel. All in all, the Tubohotel is a great way to experience serene surroundings in a equally green and serene hotel!
